Why your Hairdresser makes the big bucks....

If you have read along, you are aware that 1) I lack patience and 2) I think I have mad beautician skills. (Remember the bang incident from only a few days ago?)....

I am a better colorist than I am a stylist, and I think I will keep this look.

Behold, hair that I COLORED MYSELF. That's right: hair color out of a box.

Most of you are probably shuddering. All I can say is, hey - I had a coupon. It was $5.99. Which is a savings of about $125 from what I would have paid if I had been able to make my much needed appointment (darn kids. I am so busy running them around a simple visit to beauty parlor is like planning a Disney Vacation).

Just flip back a post or two and you will see how necessary it was for me to take action. My roots had roots.

Color: Loreal Paris Couleur Experte Express (french sounds chic, no?) Easy 2-step system, and I used Vanilla Icing!

Getting ready for a holiday!

Mother's Day is almost here. My dear mother passed away in 2007. Click HERE for her pic - I was actually blogging back then! Anyone who has lost a parent know how much we continue to miss them, regardless of the passage of time. It also reinforces how important our jobs as parents are: we have the chance to impact someone's life in such a significant way! Don't waste a moment, and don't kick yourself over the mistakes. From my perspective, any issues I had with my mom melted from my memory after she was gone, and I just remember all the love and happy times.

Here's what I wore to work yesterday:

Those pants are from the Gap, and they are divine! (They also run smaller than the pants at J Crew. I sized up one). Modern Slim Cropped pants are still available on-line, but I don't see the cerise color. Obviously I like the Talitha popover - I have it in several colors. This is 'feather paisley' ($69.99 right now!)

Today, I busted out the animal print. Everything in this outfit is old, but I feel young and fresh in it!

What are your plans for Mother's Day? Do you do something with your kids, or with your own mom? My sister visits our Mother's gravesite every year, and has a picnic with her. I love that she does that, but it would make me too sad!

The Great Bang Caper....

I have been taking pictures like mad, but not doing so well in my postings!

Here is the oldest one.... Don't you love the mint green paired with the red? That mint green shirt is marked way down if you like it... Please note that my hair looks normal.

Next up is the darling Talitha blouse in wreath (also on sale!).... My hair looks a little rough here. I broke the 11th commandment, and cut my own bangs. Read on, and you will see the professionally corrected version.

Here those awful bangs are swept to the side, and look pretty darn good (look at the old lady rocking the colored jeans! yes!! I still have it!) It's too bad I looked decent, because that just emboldened me to cut some more off:

Here is the where things got hairy... (haha. very puny!!!) ....and that very cute jacket keeps popping back on J Crew for only $49. Complete steal!

Thank the Lord someone who is professionally trained got ahold of me. Darling linen schoolboy, and cute short bangs. I am still getting used to the new me:

Moral of the story? Stick with what you know people!

All I need is a vespa

I love this skirt. I can picture myself breezing through the Italian countryside on a scooter when I wear this. I would pull up to a charming cafe, jump off my vespa with a toss of my hair, and sit in the sun and sip wine and eat cheese....

Or maybe I would just wear it to work.

If you love ballerina-y striped skirts that are as light as air, and would be perfect either in Italy OR in Kansas? Too bad. The Gimlet skirt in coaster stripe is sold out (although it is very likely it could pop back up in the sale section... if it does, go up a size. That waistband is s.n.u.g.). J Crew does have a plethora of other A-Line and full skirts, as does about every other store in town. You aren't really out of luck! The painted rope skirt would be a fabulous alternative (and it is even on sale!)

After I came home from work, I hung my skirt up and put on these fun pants from the recent sale at Anthropologie:

The Current/Elliot Stiletto Crops in sand-dollar (which I think is a strange name for a pair of plaid Bobby Brady-esque jeans. But whatevs! I still love 'em, In fact, I may have had a similar pair when I was 10).

Where are you going???

Where are you going, my little one, little one,
Where are you going, my darling, my own?
Turn around and you’re two, turn around and you’re four,
Turn around and you’re a young man going out of my door.

I remember my mother singing this song. I only recently realized how poignant it must have been to her. I sung it to my son as well, and look:

He is already starting to walk towards his future as an adult.

If I am this sentimental at Junior Prom, you will all have to pray I make it through graduation next year without completely falling apart.

Moms of little ones? Enjoy these crazy years . . . . you will be taking prom pictures before you know it!

Versatile

Floral prints are everywhere this season.
I'm sorry. I have completely forgotten how to use picasa. I know that is the worst.collage.ever! I will say though, it really illustrates the power of bed head hairspray. Guess which picture I took after I leaned over and gave myself a little upside squirt of spray? Seriously recommend! I think if you click the picture above, you will get a closer look at my bed-headed-ness! I feel like Heather Locklear.... and believe me: that is a huge stretch!

Orange you glad it's Friday!

These foulard capri pants are some of my favorite! Navy and orange are happy colors, don't you think?
My sweet girl wanted to pose for an OOTD pic as well, when her 'messy bun with headband' came out so well for her school party today:
Doesn't she look great? Her stylist is patting herself on the back as she types.....

Are you looking for a wedgie?

.... then look no further. J Crew has several fantastic and comfortable wedgies on sale right now, and is even offering an extra 30% off the already low low price !

The Lora Peep Toe Wedge is my favorite because it has a wood heel. I am hard on shoes, and wear fancy shoes to the least fancy events..... and I hate it when I skin the leather on the back of the heel because I am running around in $200 shoes at a ballpark (please Lord, do not let my husband read this. and if he does, please remind him I am a very very good sale shopper). It comes in some fun summer colors, and in my opinion? Looks darling! They fit TTS - I took a 6.5.

Anyhoo..... wood heels are the way to go because they are virtually impossible to ruin!

And because I hate to waste an 'OOTD' pic, even if it is so off centered you can barely see what I am wearing:

Last years chambray shirt and last years seersucker skirt livened up with this years (!) fabulous bubble necklace! It does pay to invest in timeless clothes of quality!!

Colored Jeans.... also for the young at heart!

I was a little worried about whether I could pull off colored jeans. Teenagers have no problem looking darling in these, but what about the mother of teenagers? The last thing I would want to do is embarrass my sweet children by trying too hard!

I think these are totally age appropriate!!

(J Crew toothpick jean in garment dyed twill - bright papaya and Back Zip long sleeved pullover. That awesome Kate Spade scarf is from here and also HERE!)
